Castle of Julius II

The Castle of Julius II stood in the small village of Ostia Antica (Ancient Ostia) during the second half of the XV century and consists of a complex of blockhouses that join three towers. Its triangular structure is due to the course of the Tiber and its main function was to defend and control the river.

The entrance is free, and the access is organized into groups of 25 people escorted by an assistant in a one- hour trip. The castle is opened every day but Monday, from 9:00 to 13:00, and on Tuesday and Thursday also from 14:30 to 16:30. It is also closed on 1st January, 1st May and 25th December.
