Isola Sacra

Between the zone of the harbor, in the north, and the area of the excavations of Ancient Ostia, in the south, there is the Isola Sacra (Sacred Island), called in ancient times insula portus or portuensis. This is the territory that Trajan turned into an artificial island creating a linking channel between the Tiber and the sea (Fossa Traiana).
